Generic Shallots

These generic shallots are a hardy, dependable variety selected from mixed stock for strong growth and resistance to bolting. Likely similar to Dutch yellow or red types, they reliably produce multiple bulbs per planting and store well through the winter.

Planting

Shallots may be planted in the fall like garlic or in late winter to early spring, provided they receive 4–6 weeks of cold weather. Separate clustered bulbs at planting, allow wider spacing than garlic, and harvest in mid to late summer once bulbs are well formed.

Culinary Use

Shallots are milder and sweeter than onions, adding rich flavor without overpowering dishes. They are excellent for everyday cooking and store far better than sweet onions, making them a reliable kitchen staple.
