Description

Early Portuguese Garlic

This is a stunning heirloom variety that is unique in its extra early harvest. Its bulbs have impressively streaky purple stripes with around 9-12 wrapped cloves per head. Turbans are always the first garlic bulbs out of your garden in spring, and also the first to start sprouting in the fall. Don’t be alarmed if you find your bulbs sprouting in storage before you get a chance to plant them in October or November. It’s perfectly normal and typical of this variety.

If you want to be one of the first to have garlic bulbs at your Farmers’ Market, consider growing this variety or any other turban. Mine are typically ready at the end of May in Kentucky zone 6b. Pretty much as soon as you see the scapes, they are ready to pull.
