FRENCH GREY shallots.
Plant as you would garlic but give them double the spacing. I do a minimum of 12" spacing. In a row where I would normally do garlic cloves four across, I do two across with the shallots.
Expect high yields. French Grey is known for about a 15:1 yield!!!
Harvest when half the tops have withered or when your tops are still half-green.
Hang to dry/cure as you would garlic.
Sold by the 1/2 and full pound.
NOT known to be a long storing garlic, so eat and enjoy as soon as you can. Mine started sprouting and/or drying out indoors come late November.
