Due to an almost total crop failure, reason unknown, I only have Xian available in culinary bulbs this year. I will be discontinuing this variety, and it will no longer be sold after the 2025 season.
This is a large cloved variety. Bulbs are attractively striped, and it matures quite early. Averages 4-6 cloves/bulb.
For the past two years this variety has matured in May, almost immediately after it softly scapes (and then falls over). I found out that this is typical of turbans. So if you want to spread out your harvest, add a turban to what you grow. I like this variety so much that I invested in more stock for 2021 and it paid off!
This is a nice, firm garlic with a little hot & spicy kick to it. Its wrappers are very tight, and it stores well. This season it was nicely purple striped on the outer wrappers. To keep the beautiful purple appearance clear your bulbs prior to curing them; if you cure them first, when you clean them the outer purple layers will peal off.
Quantities listed are for bulbs over 1.75" If you want smaller bulbs, they are listed as culinary bulbs and will measure less than 1.75" across.
